Garage Center for Contemporary Culture presents Exhibition #5: the first and largest survey of contemporary, self-taught art in Russia today.

Exhibition #5 is the culmination of a summer-long journey in 2012, during which The Museum of Everything created a mobile gallery to search for new artists in Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Saint Petersburg and Moscow. Participants were documented, photographed and filmed as part of the project, with local exhibitions held in all of the cities visited.

Revolutionary on many levels, Exhibition #5 reveals these diverse creative voices for the first time at Garage Center for Contemporary Culture in Moscow’s Gorky Park. Designed and curated by The Museum of Everything, the installation features new and re-discovered artists, elderly, amateur and homeless artists, and artists with learning and physical disabilities. Seen together, their work represents an alternative cultural map of Russia and broadens our understanding of who a contemporary artist can be.

Exhibition #5 will also feature historic self-taught artists, including Pavel Leonov and Alexander Lobanov. Their works illustrates the rich tradition of Russian non-professional art and its influence on artists from Wassily Kandinsky and Kazimir Malevich to Ilya and Emilia Kabakov.

Short films of The Museum of Everything journey are available to see at www.musevery.ru. An illustrated catalogue of the project will be available at the exhibition and features written texts by participants in the project, as well as essays by Leonid Tischkov and Jean-Hubert Martin with a foreward by Dasha Zhukova.

About The Museum of Everything
The Museum of Everything is the world’s only travelling museum for the undiscovered, unintentional, untrained and unclassifiable artists of modern times.

Since its formation in 2009, The Museum of Everything has welcomed over 450,000 visitors to its installations across Europe. The leading advocate for the alternative history of art, The Museum of Everything promotes its artists by functioning both as an archive and an exhibitor. The museum also produces its own publications, films and an award-winning retail brand.

Recent shows include Exhibition #1.1 at Chalet Society in Paris. Forthcoming projects include Il Palazzo di Everything, an official Collateral Event at the 2013 Venice Biennial, plus a major collaboration with the Hayward Gallery, London, both opening in June 2013.

The Museum of Everything is a registered UK charity (1138368).
