Paris Photo, the largest and most important international art fair dedicated to the photographic medium, returns to the historic Grand Palais in Paris Thursday, November 9 through Sunday, November 12, 2017. The 21st edition, with Guest of Honour Karl Lagerfeld, will present over 180 leading galleries and photobook dealers throughout four sectors offering collectors and enthusiasts the most diverse and qualitative presentation of photography-driven projects today.

Main Sector Galleries from 30 countries include specialist dealers showcasing historic and rare works, cutting-edge galleries promoting innovative young artists, and major international galleries highlighting today’s most significant artists working with image-based art. 

A special emphasis on solo shows offers visitors the opportunity to discover and rediscover leading artists through a viewing of an artistic ensemble. Highlights include: Vanessa Beecroft, Ilse Bing, Marcelo Brodsky, Paul Graham, Rinko Kawauchi, Dana Lixenberg, Edgar Martins, Susan Meiselas, Boris Mikhailov, Arnold Odermatt, Shigeru Onishi, Sigmar Polke, Denis Rouvre, Lise Sarfati, Karl Hugo Schmölz, Ed van der Elsken, Tom Wood, Masao Yamamoto, Tobias Zielony, among others…

Book sector publishers and specialized art book dealers are reunited at the center of the fair, recognized for their role in the advancement of photography and its artists. One of the fair’s most animated sectors, visitors may collect limited and rare editions, attend book launches and over 200 signatures session with renowned artists.

The PRISMES sector, dedicated to large-format, series, and installation works, showcases galleries presenting exceptional and historically significant ensembles exploring photography’s diverse forms and practices. The third edition, located in the prestigious Salon d’Honneur overlooking the main floor, will feature 14 curated projects with complete series by Tim Rautert; series and a performance piece by Peter Miller, large format series by Henry Chalfant and Jungjin Lee; special projects featuring Gilles Caron and Karlheinz Weinberger; installation works by Greg Crawford, Aurélie Petrel, and Juergen Teller, among others.   

Film/video sector
Paris Photo launches a new programme featuring film and video works by the show’s participating galleries in addition to a film curated selection by special guests. Screenings will be held daily November 9-12 in the Grand Palais MK2 cinema, with separate admission.

Carte Blanche—Students 2017
After a call for submissions, Paris Photo, Picto Foundation and SNCF Gares & Connexions launch a new platform for emerging photography which will allow four students currently enrolled in European master and bachelor programmes in photography and the visual arts to exhibit their work during Paris Photo at Paris’ Gare du Nord train station and engage with key figures in the field in a round-table discussion on emerging art and the art market. The winners will be announced September 12th at the Paris Photo press conference.

The Paris Photo Public Programme is a central aspect of the Fair providing visitors with first-hand insights and access to the art world. The programme includes curated exhibitions with renowned public and private institutions and Paris Photo partners including our official partners BMW and J.P. Morgan, the Platform cycle of talks with curators, artists, collectors and critics, a new film programme, the Paris Photo-Aperture Foundation PhotoBook Awards,and special events exploring the unique history of the medium; varying visions, practices and emerging trends. 

The “In Paris during Paris Photo” programme reunites a dense network of cultural institutions, including major museums, arts centers, and private foundations throughout Paris comprising some of the world’s most historically rich photographic collections.  Major photographic exhibitions include Irving Penn at the Grand Palais, Raymond Depardon at the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson, Marin Karmitz at the Maison Rouge, and the MoMA at the Fondation Louis Vuitton.
