Paris Photo Los Angeles (May 1–3), the international art fair for photography and moving image returns to Paramount Pictures Studios in Hollywood with 79 international exhibitors from 17 countries as well as a robust program of events and exhibitions.

Public programming

SOUND & VISION the conversations will offer visitors a wide array of intellectual perspectives on the use of images from some of the leading international artists and curators working today. Organized by independent curators Douglas Fogle and Hanneke Skerath, the program will consist of five conversations taking place over the course of the three days of Paris Photo Los Angeles. Each program will bring together a pair of artists for a lively and open dialogue about their artistic practices as well as more philosophical discussions about the status of the image in contemporary society. Each conversation will be preceded by a short conceptual meditation on issues raised in the work of the artists by a leading curator or critic from the fields of photography, contemporary art, and cinema. Screenings of participating artists’ moving image works will immediately follow selected conversations.

UNEDITED!
CALIFORNIA UNEDITED! will present, for the first time in Los Angeles, the R.J. Arnold Archives, an exceptional collection of previously unseen photographs printed from recently restored 19th-century glass plate negatives depicting the communities of central California. A remarkable portraitist, Arnold mastered interior lighting, capturing the details of the delicate poses and pensive glances of his subjects who come to life before our eyes. We discover in some of his portraits the work of a talented “retoucher” who literally wiped away wrinkles and recovered the youth of his sitters. Unlike most turn-of-the-century archives, Arnold’s photographs include a rare glimpse into the early Latino, Asian, and Native American communities of California. Time has left its irreparable trace cracking the decomposing emulsion of these photographs. It is thanks to the guidance and efforts of artist Anthony Lepore and the patient dedication of the volunteers of the El Paso de Robles Area Historical Society that these phantasmal images have resurfaced, salvaged from under layers of decay. The 2015 edition of UNEDITED! is curated by Anthony Lepore and supported by amanasalto.
