Kohn Gallery is pleased to present a historical booth showcasing rare and important works by artists Bruce Conner, Larry Bell, Joe Goode, and Wallace Berman.

Present in the booth will be a selection of rare verifax collages by Wallace Berman (1949–1976), an important artist from the Beat Generation who is considered by many to have paved the way for the art of assemblage. Kohn Gallery will present several of his larger, complex collages that underscore the importance of Berman in the grander narrative of 20th-century art history.

Bruce Conner (1933–2008) will be represented by rare early assemblage sculptures and other works. In contrast to Berman, Conner’s assemblages were not made from printed images in popular media. Conner created his assemblages from scraps salvaged from abandoned buildings, nylon stockings, doll parts, and other found materials, thus gaining him instant art-world attention. Bruce Conner has an upcoming solo show at the Kohn Gallery in November, and a major retrospective at the MoMA, New York, and SFMoMA, San Francisco, in 2016.

Finally, dark glass cubes by Larry Bell will be present in the booth. Being a prominent member of the Light and Space movement, Bell’s work often manipulates the spectator’s experience of light and other sensory phenomena through the use of transparent or reflective materials. The darker cubes present in the booth distort and complicate this effect, while simultaneously dissolving into breathtaking tapestries of light.
