Today Arthub launches a redesigned website—a platform for sharing its latest news, exhibitions and art productions.

Arthub is a non-profit organization devoted to contemporary art creation and diffusion. Born in Shanghai in 2007 as Arthub Asia, Arthub stemmed from the desire of exploring and experimenting with the possibilities of collaborative intelligence. Acting as a transcultural mediator, Arthub builds bridges between Asian and overseas artists and institutions through the production of artworks, exhibitions, publications and educational activities.

With a new online screening program, Arthub redesigned website will also give access to full length artists’ videos outside of the physical exhibiting spaces. The first video to be featured in the program will be A Conference, by artist Ho Tzu Nyen. The work was commissioned by Arthub in 2009, on the occasion of “The Making of the New Silk Roads,” a performative meeting held in Bangkok in the summer of 2009.

Many thanks to our website designers and developers, respectively Indianen and the Recipient Collective.

Here is a sneak peek of the upcoming projects you will find on Arthub new website:

New productions:

Thousand Silk Threads
Thursday 16 October, 6:30pm
Yi Ou Lai, Suzhou Village
Presented in collaboration with Value Retail, Yi Ou Lai Suzhou and Boiler Corporation

Concurrently to its new website, Arthub will inaugurate in Suzhou the premiere of Thousand Silk Threads, a performance produced during a one-year collaboration between international media artists, choreographers and musicians, with art direction by Davide Quadrio, Zhou Jie and Ivan Maria Vele. Presented at Yi Ou Lai Suzhou Village, the performance will merge dance, digital art, electronic and traditional Chinese music, and will subsequently tour internationally in 2015.

The scenario for the piece will be a remarkable 35-meter long stage, designed by set and costume designer Zhou Jie (China). The choreographies and dance flash-mobs series have been conceived by performance artist and dancer Xiao Ke (China) in collaboration with choreographer Alizia Borsari (Italy).

With digital projections by Recipients Collective (Italy) and with contributions by n+n Corsino (France), the moving screens that compose the scenography will feature a sequence of artists’ new media works.  The visual experience will be flanked by a live performance by Hu Zi (China)—composer of the music for the piece—and acclaimed German ensemble, Brandt Brauer Frick.

Exhibitions:

The Making of the Museum
Opening 21 November
Aurora Museum of Shanghai
Presented with a special support by Alcantara

The Making of the Museum, the upcoming contemporary art group exhibition hosted by the Aurora Museum, will inaugurate on 21 November and will run until 31 March 2015 as a parallel event of the 10th Shanghai Biennale.

Since 2013, Arthub and Aurora have inaugurated a series of projects aimed at connecting contemporary art with the permanent collection of antiques housed in the museum.

The Aurora Museum will open a Contemporary Department in the upcoming three years, but has already started implementing temporary exhibitions to set the blueprints of its contemporary curatorial program.

Featuring works by Li Xurui, Liu Jianhua, Kan Xuan, Qiu Zhijie, Yang Fudong, and with a site-specific installation by Michael Lin, the exhibition is the second, expanded edition of the The Unicorn and the Dragon, a 2013 Qiu Zhijie’s solo show presented jointly by the Aurora Museum and Arthub during the 55th Venice Biennale, at Fondazione Querini Stampalia.
