FEATURES
The October issue of Flash Art International continues its focus on the medium of painting and its multilayered nature, premiered in the July-September issue.

Kunsthalle Zürich director Beatrix Ruf analyzes the work of Colombia-born, London-based artist Oscar Murillo and his recent projects in Miami and London. In a back-and-forth correspondence with Ruf, Murillo describes his energetic and unique working methods.

Independent writer Laura McLean-Ferris interviews Rio de Janeiro-born-and-based artist Fernanda Gomes, whose work will be the subject of a solo show at the Centre international d’art et du paysage de l’île de Vassivière, opening in October, as well as included in the upcoming Istanbul Biennial.

Chiara Parisi, artistic director of the Monnaie de Paris, explores the “mental art” of Marisa Merz, awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 2013 Venice Biennale.

Drawn from several interviews with the artist, Christine Macel—Chief Curator at the Centre Pompidou and curator of the 2013 Venice Biennale French Pavilion—takes us on a journey through the life and work of French artist Sophie Calle.

Seeking answers about contemporary tendencies in painting, the magazine submits a questionnaire to a group of emerging artists—including Joshua Abelow, Ana Cardoso, Caleb Considine, Rashawn Griffin, Elizabeth Neel, Rinus van de Velde, Emil Michael Klein, Alessandro Roma, Angelo Otero and Carlos Bunga—who provides feedback on the state of this medium and insight about their respective methodologies.

Ali Kazma by Firat Arapoglu, Ron Mueck by Grazia Quaroni, a challenging thesis on the notion of archive by Ory Dessau.
