Frieze Projects
Frieze New York 2013

Frieze, London

January 28, 2013

May 10–13, 2013

The Frieze Projects program at Frieze New York 2013 will realize seven specially commissioned projects, both in the fair and around Randall’s Island Park, Manhattan.

The participating artists this year are: Liz GlynnMaria LobodaMateo TannattAndra UrsutaMarianne Vitale. The program will also feature a special tribute to legendary artist run restaurant Food, originally conceived by Gordon Matta-Clark and Carol Goodden in 1971, with different artists cooking daily in a temporary restaurant at the fair. Also an original text by novelist Ben Marcus will be this year’s Frieze Story. The Frieze Projects program takes place annually at Frieze New York and is curated by Cecilia Alemani.

The participating artists have been invited to conceive site-specific works that either react to the exceptional location of Randall’s Island or engage with the experience of the fair. Whilst some projects confront the unique landscape of the site by inserting incongruous presences within the island’s landscape—including a color-coded garden, a speakeasy and a cemetery—others, play with the everyday life of the fair via folkloric traditions and formalist preoccupations.

Frieze Projects presents newly commissioned artworks by international artists. The artists commissioned by Frieze Projects will use Frieze New York as a site to realize ambitious ideas.

Frieze New York will take place May 10–13, 2013 and will present over 180 of the world’s leading galleries.

Frieze New York is sponsored by Deutsche Bank.
