Anastasia Khoroshilova - Starie Novosti (Old News) @ Hilger contemporary
Dorotheergasse 5, 1010 Vienna
The exhibition is ongoing until December 2, 2011.

In collaboration with artphilein foundation.

The mixed media installation STARIE NOVOSTI (OLD NEWS) by Anastasia Khoroshilova consists of nine light boxes with nearly life-size portraits of mothers who were taken hostage by terrorists; most of these women saw their children perish in those dreadful days of September. The project presents Khoroshilova’s critical examination of the transience, pliability and frailty of a society’s collective memory. The project was part of the Collateral Events of the  54th International Art Exhibition – la Biennale di Venezia – ”STARIE NOVOSTI (OLD NEWS)” by Anastasia Khoroshilova which will be on display until November 27 @ Biblioteca Zenobiana del Temanza des Centro Studi e Dokumentazione della Cultura Armena.

Andreas Leikauf – Play My Game
@ Hilger modern
Dorotheergasse 5, 1010 Vienna
The exhibition is ongoing until December 2, 2011.

Best described as “reflexive art gone rock and roll,” Leikauf’s masterful style and imagery incites multi-dimensional reverberations, as he likes to amp up his scenes to a dark and fervent crescendo.

Though his work takes him down the highway of history, Leikauf prefers not to use the passing lane. Instead, he typically blends motifs from the 1950s with stylistic elements from the 60s, then infuses a shot of 80s spirit into the finished “loops” to place them smack dab in the 21st century. It’s past, present and future fused into one, with each taking the whole in a different direction. (text fragment by Karl Baier, translation by Gordon Catlin, 2011)
