The Michael Kohn Gallery is pleased to announce its participation in this year’s Art Basel. Kohn Gallery will showcase historical paintings, collage, and sculpture from the 1950′s through the 1970′s by important California artists.  Work by Joe Goode, Jess Collins, Wallace Berman, Charles Brittin, and Bruce Conner will be shown in the booth to underscore the West Coast’s unique take on Light and Space, Minimalism, Pop art, collage, and photography.  In addition to this, a selection of work by gallery artists such as Rosa Loy, Mark Ryden, Camille Rose Garcia, and Ryan McGinness will also be present in the booth.

Pendulum (1976)
Super 8 to 16mm, Digibeta tape
17:15 minutes
Edition of 6

Pendulum (1976) is a hauntingly lyrical example of James Nares’s “No Wave” film.  Using a Super 8 camera, Nares filmed this site-specific work of a suspended, swinging, metal sphere, and ultimately transformed this quiet New York City alley into a scene pulsating with anxious energy. Pendulum was recently on view at the Museo Nacional Centro De Arte Reina Sofia, and at the Kunsthalle Berlin, where it met with great praise and success.
