Fresh Paint Contemporary Art Fair was launched in Tel Aviv in March 2008 to a great success, with 14,000 visitors in 4 days.

Fresh Paint 2 will be held on March 18 – 21, 2009, in “Hatachana” site in Tel Aviv. “Hatachana” (“The Station”) is a beautifully renovated old train station located between Jaffa and the colorful neighborhood of Neve Tzedek. It will be exposed to the general public for the first time during the fair.

Fresh Paint’s mission is to create a platform from which young, Israeli artists can emerge. Unique to the fair is the presentation of bodies of works by up-and-coming, independent artists – painters, sculptors, photographers and video artists – alongside the professional Galleries. 70 unrepresented artists, all selected by a distinguished panel of Israeli and international art professionals, and 5 young Israeli galleries, will present their works at Fresh paint 2 alongside Israel’s top 12 contemporary art galleries.

Fresh paint 2 offers an educational program of lectures, panels, performances and encounters with Israeli art and artists. To complement the fair’s offerings, a curated exhibition of select, challenging artworks by Fresh Paint’s independent artists, will be presented at Many House gallery space of Bank Leumi, in walking distance from the fair’s ground.

Each year, a Most Promising Artist Award is presented at Fresh Paint Art Fair by the Igal Ahouvi Art Collection. The winner is selected from the independent artists participating in the fair for his or her overall artistic achievements so far, as well as for showing the most promise and potential for the future. Shira Zelwer, the Most Promising Artist Award winner of Fresh Paint 1, will present a solo show at Fresh Paint 2, curated by Ellen Ginton, chief curator, Israeli art, The Tel Aviv Museum of Art.

Fresh Paint 2 includes a number of unique works, commissioned from independent artists of Fresh Paint 1. These commissions include “Mashkhara”, performance & installation by Anisa Ashkar, curated by Edna Moshenson, with the support of Outset Contemporary Art Fund, a video installation by Porat Salomon, curated by Sarit Shapira, and additional video work by Itamar Shimshoni.

Fresh Paint’s community projects and fund-raising activities to benefit non-profit organizations through the arts, include The Secret Postcard, in association with the Tel Aviv Museum of Art’s Education Center, to fund art scholarships for youth from underprivileged backgrounds, who excel in the arts, and The Curator’s Choice Gallery which funds the yearly activity of the art therapy program at the nationwide children’s homes of the charity Yeladim – Fair Chance for Children, and special edition commissions by three of Fresh Paint’s artists, to support the activity of Nalaga’at, Deaf-Blind Theater Company in Jaffa port, Tel Aviv.

Fresh Paint 2, in collaboration with Israel’s leading art and culture institutions, has designed a rich VIP program for overseas and select local guests. For further details and special rates at Tel Aviv’s hotels for Fresh Paint’s guests, please contact Miss Nitzan Wolanski, Director of International Relations: nitzan@freshpaint.co.il
