Barcelona Symposium 2019—the 7th edition of the Talking Galleries flagship event—will take place on January 21 and 22, 2019. More than 25 leading art world professionals from Europe, America, and Africa will share their vision with the 200-strong audience, made up of gallerists, collectors, art journalists, curators, artists, and fair directors.

Emmanuel Perrotin will open the symposium with the keynote speech on a gallerist path. From his first gallery in his own apartment to six spaces in Paris, New York, Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo, and Shanghai almost 30 years later, Perrotin has made a brilliant career and secured international success for his artists.

With the aim to raise awareness on the urgent gender imbalance affecting the art market, the symposium will host a key panel to debate about “Women Artists on the Market,” featuring the participation of brilliant female professionals from the sectors of art dealing, writing and management: Vanessa Carlos (Carlos/Ishikawa), Clare McAndrew (Arts Economics), Lisa Schiff (Schiff Fine Art), and Anny Shaw (The Art Newspaper).

The second day will feature top art advisor Allan Schwartzman’s (Art Agency, Partners) talk about his experience in advisory services and his take of the current art panorama. Further, JJ Charlesworth (ArtReview), Alison McDonald (Gagosian), Jane Morris (Cultureshock Media), and Anna Brady (The Art Newspaper) will engage in a discussion on the fast rise of new players on traditional publishing field and a growing competition from the well-heeled galleries and auction houses in content production. Another highlight of the day will be a panel on Africa’s booming market among Lerato Bereng (Stevenson Gallery), Touria El Glaoui (1:54 Contemporary African Art Fair), Peter Gerdman (ArtTactic), and Bomi Odufunade (Dash & Rallo).

Among other prominent contributors to this year’s edition are Kenny Schachter (art journalist, collector, and curator), Simon de Pury (de Pury de Pury), JiaJia Fei (The Jewish Museum, NY), Tim Schneider (artnet News), Süreyya Wille (Artsy), Joe Kennedy (Unit London), Eugenio Re Rebaudengo (Artuner), Georgina Adam (The Art Newspaper), Melanie Gerlis (Financial Times), and Llucià Homs (Talking Galleries).

About Talking Galleries
Talking Galleries is an international think tank for discussion on new trends and cogent issues, specific to the gallery sector. It brings together art world veterans and industry newbies to propel the debate, spread the knowledge and re-think the existing models. Its ultimate goals are to create a formalised body of knowledge in art gallery management and establish best practices.

Launched in 2011, it holds an annual symposium in Barcelona. Thanks to the increasing interest to the topic and format, Talking Galleries entered the international scene and it now organises talks and conferences in global art capitals such as Paris, Madrid, London, and New York. Among its latest international events are TG Paris 2018, TG Seoul 2018 and TG Berlin 2015.
