On the occasion of the centennial anniversary of Avesta’s restored city rights Avesta Art 2019 is pleased to announce FESTEN (the Celebration), the 18th annual contemporary art exhibition at Verket. With world-renowned artists Jacob Dahlgren (Sweden), Natasha Dahnberg (Russia/Sweden), Maider López (Spain) and Joana Vasconcelos (Portugal), the show will be comprised of both new art works made on commission for this specific exhibition and loans from artists and public collections.

FESTEN relates to cycles and rituals of nature, society and life. Set in the spectacular industrial heritage of the former ironworks the artists are provided a platform to investigate different perspectives on generosity, hospitality, networking, negotiation, performance, entertainment, status, gender, identity and climate change through various mediums.

As an addition to the contemporary art exhibition FESTEN, Avesta Art are proud to present PRESENTEN (the Gift), an exhibition with artworks from three public art collections in the region of Bergslagen. The artworks reflect upon the art history and the shared industrial heritage of the region.

Curator: Linda Wallenberg

Exhibition catalogue: A publication in conjunction with the exhibition will be in both English and Swedish: Avesta Art 2019: FESTEN
