I am a text about a text, writing about writing.
I am a new collaboration between art-agenda and TextWork, an editorial platform created by Fondation d'entreprise Ricard and the French Ministry of Culture dedicated to commissioning longform essays on contemporary artists.

I am Meta.
I am published monthly.
I reflect about the process of writing: where it begins, how it unfolds, what it generates.

For each Meta text, a different author considers their original TextWork monographic essay and revisits the experience, challenges, and fulfillments of writing about art.

To launch art-agenda and TextWork’s collaboration and their respective new websites, a Meta Talk will take place in Paris in June.

A talk about reading and about how art is read.
About how reading is changing and how these changes are transforming writing and editing.
About consistency and fragmentation, surfaces and materials, intimacy and publicness.
About why people read and what reading provides: information and escape, knowledge and fiction, pleasure and duty.
About writing for reading and reading for writing.

Dedicated to publishing writing about art, art-agenda and TextWork are bringing together artist Neïl Beloufa, writer Mathilde Villeneuve, musician and writer Momus (Nick Currie), TextWork coordinator Pauline Autet, and art-agenda editor-in-chief Filipa Ramos to discuss the relation between reading, writing, and publishing about contemporary art.

The talk will explore how reading creates communities, produces debate, and generates opinions. It will consider how reading balances attention and distraction. It will discuss different modes of reading and look at how connectivity and digital interfaces challenged, transformed, and invented different, new readerships.

In the first Meta text, “What to fall back on,” writer Rachel Valinsky reflects on her monographic essay on Eva Barto, “Eva Barto’s Gamble.”
