ARCOlisboa—Portugal’s young and dynamic contemporary art fair—has decided to reschedule its physical version to May 13–16, 2021, while converting this year’s edition into a four-week long digital version that will continue to offer online fair-goers exclusive access to the vibrant Portuguese contemporary art scene.

The online ARCOlisboa 2020—which takes place May 20 to June 14 at arcolisboa.com in collaboration with artsy.net—presents the Galleries selected by the Organising Committee and the individual section curators, as well as a complete Forum with conversations on topics that will again connect the Portuguese scene with an international audience.

The General Programme of the fair includes established Portuguese galleries such as Cristina Guerra, Filomena Soares, Pedro Cera or Vera Cortês, as well as up-and-coming galleries such as Balcony, Bruno Murias, Madragoa or Nuno Centeno. Major Spanish galleries such as Elba Benítez, Elvira González, Heinrich Ehrhardt, Helga de Alvear or Juana de Aizpuru, as well as international galleries such as Balice Hertling (Paris), Georg Kargl (Vienna), Greengrassi (London), Marcelo Guarnieri (São Paulo) or Sokyo (Kyoto).

Opening Lisboa, curated for the first time by the curatorial team Kunsthalle Lissabon, offers a selection of newcomer galleries to the fair, presenting new contents for the audience of ARCOlisboa. Paula Nascimento wil develop for the second consecutive year Africa in Focus, with a number of new galleries in addition to those that successfully participated in the fair in 2019.

Visit ARCOlisboa at Artsy.net to discover each gallery’s specially prepared selection for this edition of the fair, as well as the works that guest curators and collectors will select weekly through the Curators and Collectors Pick programmes, among those the curators Luiza Teixeira de Freitas, Bruno Leitão and João Laia.

With complete information and access to every talk through arcolisboa.com, the Forum of ARCOlisboa presents an average of three live-streamed conversations each week. These firsthand talks will include conversations with artists led by curators Kunsthalle Lissabon, Paula Nascimento and Filipa Oliveira and will feature artists such as Nadia Belerique, Diana Policarpo, amongst others; conversations with Portuguese collectors Armando Cabral and António Cachola led by Tiago de Abreu; an examination of Portuguese contemporary art institutions and the nation’s lively contemporary art scene led by Miguel Mesquita and João Ribas. The programme will also have the collaboration of Catarina Vaz Pinto, City councillor for culture of Câmara Municipal de Lisboa, and Tobi Maier, director of Galerias Municipais da Egeac, and discussions about contemporary art publishing led by members of Arts Libris.

For more information or to attend the fair and related events, visit the fair’s website arcolisboa.com where you will also find a selection of the main Portuguese art institutions and access to their online projects. We won’t be able to walk around Lisbon together this year, but we won’t miss their interesting proposals.
