In spring 2020, Spazio Maiocchi launches Afterimage, a new online platform for moving image works that leave a lasting impression—aiming to carve out a space for meaningful and immersive viewing amid today’s overwhelming amount of visual stimuli.

Over the course of the spring/summer season, Afterimage presents a selection of video works curated by KALEIDOSCOPE released online bi-weekly.

The program kicks off with a screening of Clemens Von Wedemeyer's work Transformation Scenario (2018) introduced by New York-based writer and editor Adriana Blidaru. In this recent film, the German artist/filmmaker examines the power structures in group dynamics, social behavior, surveillance and mass manipulation—questioning the red thread between the 1989 Monday demonstrations in Leipzig, the extras’ rebellion at the Cinecittà Studios in the ’50s, a Black Friday event, and social distancing measures.

To follow, Silent Madness (2019), a short film by London-based Nigerian fashion designer Mowalola Ogunlesi directed by Jordan Hemingway and starring Yves Tumor, will be available to stream from Friday, June 19. Originally presented on the occasion of Ogunlesi's debut solo exhibition at South London’s NOWGallery in December 2019, the film follows Tumor over the course of an extremely unfortunate night out as they suffer the effects of a nightmarish trip.

Originated in 2017 in Milan by Carhartt WIP and Slam JamSpazio Maiocchi is a social space where art, design and fashion blend to shape new cultural experiences. Since its inception, KALEIDOSCOPE has curated the cultural programming of the space—including exhibitions by Tobias Spichtig, Sterling Ruby, H.R. Giger, Virgil Abloh, Korakrit Arunanondchai, Anna Uddenberg, Arthur Jafa, Timur Si-Qin, Telfar and Darja Bajagic.
