In its 18th edition, the LOOP Festival in Barcelona will dedicate an entire programme to celebrating artists’ film and video online. Through December 10, 2020 a selection of curated programmes conceived in collaboration with specialised collections and institutions such as the Centre national des arts plastiques-Cnap (Paris), the In Between Art Film Foundation (Rome), the Julia Stoschek Collection (Berlin and Dusseldorf) and TBA21-Thyssen Bornemisza Art Contemporary (Madrid, Vienna and Venice) will be hosted on VIDECLOOP.

An open platform featuring films and videos by established and upcoming visual artists, VIDECLOOP stems from a reflection upon the modes of distribution and reception of the moving image in the virtual realm. Hosting curated programmes conceived either as thematic explorations or monographic surveys, it aims at giving access to film works that would be difficult to access otherwise, while bringing mediation theory and practice online.

Through the invitation of international collaborators for the creation of temporary exhibitions, the project mirrors the idea that LOOP is an open platform for dissemination and cooperation, which can exist live and online.

On the occasion of the LOOP Festival 2020, the platform will host the following programmes:

Watery Witnesses
An audiovisual selection from the archives of Thyssen Bornemisza Art Contemporary-TBA21, curated by Soledad Gutiérrez (Curator, TBA21) and Daniela Zyman (Artistic Director, TBA21), with works by Allora & Calzadilla (Puerto Rico), Courtney Desiree Morris (US), Patricia Domínguez (Chile), Mario García Torres (Mexico), Himali Singh Soin (Delhi) with David Soin Tappeser (Germany), Želimir Žilnik (Serbia).

The Dancing States of a Political Body
A monographic proposal with videos by Cecilia Bengolea (Argentina), presented in collaboration with the Centre national des arts plastiques-Cnap and curated by Pascale Cassagnau (Head of the audiovisual and new media collection, Cnap, Paris).

“Time Passed as a Courier with Urgent News”
A programme presenting a selection from the archives of the In Between Art Film Foundation, with works by Alyona Larionova (Russia), Masbedo (Italy), Elena Mazzi (Italy) and Janis Rafa (Greece), curated by Carolina Ciuti (Curator and Artistic Director, LOOP Barcelona).

Cao Fei for LOOP
A selection of works by Cao Fei (China) curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist (Artistic Director, Serpentine Galleries, London) and enriched by three films produced during lockdown by Chinese artists Tao Hui, Wang Tou and Shen Xin, as picked out by Cao Fei herself. This online exhibition was conceived in collaboration with the Julia Stoschek Collection.
