Milano Art Week

The 25th edition of miart, the international modern and contemporary art fair of Milan, is about to reopen its doors. Organized by Fiera Milano—and directed for the first year by Nicola Ricciardi—miart will take place inside the pavilions of fieramilanocity_MiCo and on a digital platform from September 17 to 19, 2021, with a VIP preview on September 16.

With over 140 participating galleries from 20 countries, the fair confirms its positioning among the most attention-grabbing events of the season, bringing together in the two main sections—Established Masters and Established Contemporary—over 100 years of art history: from artworks of the early twentieth century to brand-new creations by the most recent generations of artists. The latter will also be protagonists in the Emergent section of the fair, curated by Attilia Fattori Franchini, while Decades, curated by Alberto Salvadori, will take the visitors on a journey across the past century through ten galleries—each with a project that represents a particular decade through the work of a single artist.

Moreover, miart will also be the occasion for a new edition the Milano Art Week, the hugely popular event—developed in collaboration with the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Milan—that spread across the city celebrating and gathering the major local public institutions and private foundations. The constellation of new openings scheduled during this time is lively: from Fondazione Prada’s Sturm & Drang at the Fondazioen Prada Osservatorio to the great Claude Monet exhibition at Palazzo Reale, developed in collaboration with the Marmottan Museum in Paris; from the solo shows by Simone Fattal and Michael Anastassiades at Fondazione ICA to Carlo Mollino’s exhibition at Triennale Milano; from the Project Room by Nevine Mahmoud and Margherita Raso with Derek MF at Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro to the site-specific interventions by Elisabetta Benassi at Fondazione Adolfo Pini and Alessandro Pessoli at the Cloisters of Sant’Eustorgio.

During the Milano Art Week, it will also be possible to visit some of the exhibitions already open in town, such as the great retrospective on Mario Sironi at the Museo del Novecento; Nairy Baghramian’s Misfits by Fondazione Furla at GAM – Galleria d’Arte Moderna; Neil Beloufa’s and Maurizio Cattelan’s solo shows at Pirelli Hangar Bicocca, as well as Simon Fujiwara at Fondazione Prada and Luisa Lambri at PAC – Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea. While the city galleries will host an “art night” on Saturday, September 18, throughout the whole week there will be several appointments dedicated to public art, live painting, street art and installations in public spaces—including a site-specific project by Adrian Paci for Artline in the Citylife park.

Last but not least, miart is also very pleased to collaborate for the first time with C2C Festival which presents #C2CMLN shared by Gucci: a two-day program that will include the open rehearsals of FORSE ORA, the greatly anticipated new band project by Caterina Barbieri, Lorenzo Senni and Jim C. Nedd.
