A central event for professionals and art lovers, Artissima 2021 will take place from November 4 to 7 in Turin, under the guidance of Ilaria Bonacossa.

The only Italian fair exclusively focusing on contemporary art, Artissima stands out on the international scene for its experimental, cutting-edge and sophisticated identity, and for the high quality exhibits.

The 28th edition of the fair will present a new development: alongside the four traditional sections displayed in the exhibition pavilion, the three curated sections Present Future, Back to the Future and Disegni will be hosted both virtually on the innovative Artissima XYZ digital platform and physically in a collective space at the fair’s venue.

A new theme will symbolically cross the sections: Countertime, a term borrowed from the world of music and selected as a metaphor for art’s ability to play on backbeats, transforming weak accents into strong notes and creating a contrast with dominant motifs. Art has always operated in a countertime of emotions and forms thanks to the artists’ intuitions that foreshadow the future, changing our trajectories of reality, disrupting paradigms and opening up unpredictable interpretations and perspectives.

Fair sections:

Main Section brings together outstanding galleries from the international art world: established names offer collectors and art lovers an event of the highest quality.

Dialogue/Monologue showcases emerging galleries or galleries with an experimental approach applying with either a monographic booth or with a dialogue of works by two artists.

New Entries presents the most interesting emerging galleries from the international art scene, that have been open less than five years and taking part in Artissima for the first time.

Art Spaces & Editions features galleries and non-profit spaces presenting editions, prints and multiples by contemporary artists.

Artissima XYZ—the curated sections:

Present Future, curated by Ilaria Gianni and Fernanda Brenner, showcases emerging talents, preferably less than 40 years old. The artists, presented by their reference galleries or research spaces, are selected on the basis of a specific project.

Back to the Future, curated by Lorenzo Giusti and Mouna Mekouar, presents monographic projects by great pioneers of contemporary art of the last century, who are still active today. The section hosts artworks realised starting from 1960 in dialogue with recent artworks, created in 2020.

Disegni, curated by Bettina Steinbrügge and Lilou Vidal, features monographic projects dedicated to the most contemporary experimentations with the practice of drawing, originally associated with paper and then radically evolved.
