Latitude – Platform for Brazilian Art Galleries Abroad, a partnership between ABACT (Brazilian Association of Contemporary Art Galleries) and Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency), is proud to support the participation of Brazilian galleries at Frieze Viewing Room, the virtual edition of the fair which will run alongside Frieze New York, reaching a global online audience and those that might not be able to travel.

Latitude member galleries participating in Frieze Viewing Room between May 5 and 14, are Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel (São Paulo), Galeria Marilia Razuk (São Paulo),  Galeria Nara Roesler (São Paulo / New York) and Mendes Wood DM (São Paulo / New York / Brussels).

Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel presents a project titled Unnamable which includes films, paintings, photographs and sculptures by Tiago Carneiro da Cunha, Yuli Yamagata, Ivens Machado, Ernesto Neto, Erika Verzutti, Adriana Varejão, Cristiano Lenhardt, Márcia Falcão, Diambe, Mauro Restiffe, Tamar Guimarães & Kasper Akhøj and Bárbara Wagner & Benjamin de Burca. Unnamable offers possible interpretations of the zeitgeist of our time. From issues around colonialism and violence to religion and censorship, the selection of works seeks to assimilate the intricacies of Brazilian society.

Galeria Marilia Razuk presents the show Poetics to postpone the end of the world, which brings together a group of works by artists who were active in the second half of the 20th century and whose productions respond to extremely personal interactions with the world around them. Works by internationally renowned artists from different generations and backgrounds—José Leonilson, Eleonore Koch, Johanna Calle—dialogue with works by young emerging artists on the Brazilian scene, such as Maria Laet, Vanderlei Lopes and Mariana Serri.

Galeria Nara Roesler and Mendes Wood DM participate both in Frieze New York and Frieze Viewing Room. While Galeria Nara Roesler features works by Cristina Canale, Carlito Carvalhosa and Amelia Toledo, three Brazilian artists that are not usually displayed together, Mendes Wood DM participates with a remarkable selection of works by Solange Pessoa, Sonia Gomes, Rubem Valentim, Paulo Monteiro, Marina Perez Simão, Giangiacomo Rossetti, Maaike Schoorel, Wallace Pato, Paulo Nazareth, Matthew Lutz-Kinoy, Paloma Bosquê, Lynda Benglis, Sofia Borges and Neïl Beloufa.

Latitude also supports the participation of CASANOVA gallery in NADA House, featuring an exhibition with Ignacio Gatica and Martin La Roche who will present an installation that showcases two interconnected bodies of work.

Latitude’s support on digital platforms
Given the international impact of the health crisis, alongside its support at international art fairs’ viewing rooms, Latitude supports the member galleries to take part on digital platforms such as ArtNexus Viewing Room and Artsy. A total of 14 member galleries take part in the ArtNexus Viewing Room and 21 on Artsy. Additionally, Latitude is launching a curated overall feature page on Artsy where artworks from 20 member galleries are presented. To take a glance at this feature page, please click here

About Latitude
Latitude
Platform for Brazilian Art Galleries Abroad is a programme developed to promote Brazil’s contemporary art market internationally. Created in 2007, in 2011 it became a partnership between Associação Brasileira de Arte Contemporânea ABACT [Brazilian Association of Contemporary Art Galleries] and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil) with the goal of creating business opportunities for the sector abroad, mainly through professional training, support for international placements and cultural and commercial promotion. As a requirement to become a member of ABACT, all participating galleries must work in the primary market. Currently nearly 60 galleries have opted to take part in the project. These galleries are located across seven different Brazilian states and represent more than 1000 contemporary artists.
