Exhibitions:

Chiara Camoni, La Meraviglia
Until February 20, 2022

Curator: Alice Motard

The work of Chiara Camoni (b. 1974 in Italy, lives and works in Fabbiano), which comprises drawings, sculptures, videos, and installations, is grounded in the domestic sphere and typically results from collective experiences. Drawing on a tradition that ranges from Arte Povera to regional crafts, Camoni makes art from natural materials (clay, wood, plants, wool) collected around the Tuscan mountain village where she lives and works surrounded by her family and friends. Ancestral knowledge, vernacular know-how, and intergenerational transmission are at the heart of her practice, which is loosely inspired by eco- and cyberfeminist theories. The exhibition at CEAAC looks back on the artist’s career over the past fifteen years.

Chiara Camoni is represented by Arcade, London and Brussels, and SpazioA, Pistoia. The exhibition at CEAAC is co-coproduced together with the Capc Musée d’art contemporain de Bordeaux.

Charlotte Khouri, You’ll always be taller than a newspaper
April 2–September 4, 2022

Curator: Alice Motard

In her work, Charlotte Khouri (b. 1985 in the Haute-Garonne, lives and works in Paris) pointedly questions the potential of information to shape mind and matter through its impact on individual and collective structures. Harnessing the codes of commercial television, Khouri develops a clever, humorous and engaging body of performative, video and sculptural work that dissects our relationship to culture and established hierarchies.

Produced by CEAAC, You’ll always be taller than a newspaper consist in the realization of a monumental newspaper and a series of scaled-down “architectures of power” (headquarters of large newspapers, TV stations, European institutions, etc.), in which the artist will be performing. Footage of her performances will be shown in the exhibition alongside the purpose-built stage sets and props.

The production of Charlotte Khouri’s project is generously supported by Fondation des Artistes and “Mondes nouveaux,” a funding scheme set up by the Ministry of Culture as part of the French government’s recovery plan.

Au Bonheur
Julie Béna, Estelle Deschamp, La double clique, Marianne Marić, Alexandra Midal, Flora Moscovici, Alban Turquois, Nicholas Vargelis, Giom Von Birgitta, a.o.

October 1, 2022–January 8, 2023
Curators: Alice Motard and Joël Riff

The group exhibition Au Bonheur is a statement of intent that summons the CEEAC’s genius loci, as the former Art Nouveau lighting, porcelain, and glassware store temporarily resumes its original function. By reconsidering the commodity object from a cultural perspective, the selection and display of the works in this presentation will focus on the “social life of things” (Arjun Appadurai). Among other questions, Au Bonheur will explore the shifts between the use value and exchange value of handmade objects and examine the convoluted relationships between ideology and aesthetics.

Within the exhibition, utilitarian pottery from ceramists and potters from across the Grand Est Region will be on sale in a pop-up Moly Shop organized by the Moly-Sabata/Fondation Albert Gleizes artist residency.

Events:

Extraire l’image
Screening, encounters, workshops, exhibition of publications
March 11–13, 2022
Curators: Students of the Master’s programme “Critique-Essais” of the University of Strasbourg

In dialogue with the exhibition Déjà Vu at Syndicat Potentiel in Strasbourg (March 10–April 8, 2022), Extraire l’image reflects on the concept of the “resurgence of images.” A screening of Frank Beauvais’s film Just Don’t Think I’ll Scream (2019) will be followed by a conversation between Anne Delrez (Director of La Conserverie, Metz) and Bérénice Serra (artist-researcher and independent editor, Caen) around collecting vernacular photography. Workshops on archival image processing round off the weekend, during which small-edition publications produced by the guest artists will be on display.
