Arthur Cordier: FREE COFFEE** NO SMARTPHONE FOR ETERNITY

Arthur Cordier does to advertising what advertising does to public space. For the duration of the exhibition the artist provides IKOB with office plants and free coffee with a twist. The artist’s analytical, playful approach to cycles of labour, advertising and consumption runs through each element of the exhibition.

February 11–27, 2022
CMMC (Céline Mathieu and Myrthe Christianne van der Mark): Sun Tan

CMMC is an artist duo focused on performance. Somewhere between strongly intuitive and oddly constructed, their practice combines language and doubt. For their solo exhibition at IKOB, CMMC take the museum’s physical adjacency to a tanning salon as a starting point for a performative installation, exploring (artificial) solar power as energy and affect.

Kristina Benjocki: At sunset we retreat once again, up the hill, to where we can watch the skeins of water reflect colours we’ve never seen before

Amsterdam-based artist Kristina Benjocki’s work explores the political mechanisms of forgetting and remembering in the context of former East and West Europe, and materializes through film, installation, audio and textile. Engaging with the local history of the cloth industry in Eupen, the exhibition is a poetic interrogation of how textile production intersects with stories of political resistance and the construction of cultural identity. Generously supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Johan Tahon & special guest

Dutch sculptor Johan Tahon is known for his large-scale plaster human figures, emanating a monumental presence and deep sense of materiality. Tahon’s relentless search for the inexpressible has led to creative relationships with artists from other disciplines, musicians and writers, one of whom he invites to collaborate with him for this exhibition at IKOB.

IKOB – Museum of Contemporary Art is located in Eupen, in the German-speaking region of Belgium. The exhibition programme is curated by Frank-Thorsten Moll and Brenda Guesnet.
