A guide to New Mexico arts and culture.

Southwest Contemporary announces the publication of the 2022 New Mexico Field Guide on May 27.  The New Mexico Field Guide is a comprehensive resource for discovering arts and culture across the state of New Mexico, including listings of galleries, museums, arts organizations, and services, maps of major arts districts in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Silver City, Taos, and Truth or Consequences, and a calendar of major arts events happening this year.

This year’s guide also features Southwest Contemporarys fourth annual 12 New Mexico Artists to Know Now profile series, an editorial feature and group exhibition taking place in Santa Fe May 27–June 25, 2022. This year’s artists are Adrian Aguirre, Morgan Barnard, Amelia Bauer, Nina Elder, Welly Fletcher, Eric J. Garcia, Terran Last Gun (Piikani), Caroline Liu, Lucy Maki, Tigre Mashaal-Lively, Jen Pack, and Mikayla Patton (Oglala Lakota).

In a feature on significant anniversaries in New Mexico arts, we celebrate milestones such as Santa Fe Indian Market’s 100th year, the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts’s 50th year, and the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum’s 25th year. Other features preview Santa Fe’s forthcoming new art museum, the Vladem Contemporary, and Grounded in Clay, a major exhibition of Pueblo pottery opening at the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture this July. Lastly, a Field Report gives us an insider’s tour of the remote arts outpost Magdalena.

The 2022 New Mexico Field Guide is now available for purchase on our website (shipping available within the United States).
