Liste Art Fair Basel, the leading international fair for new discoveries in contemporary art, will take place from June 13–19, 2022 in Hall 1.1 of Messe Basel.

The Liste Committee selected 82 galleries from 37 countries who will present a total of 60 solo, 20 group, and one collective stand. Moreover, 20 of the galleries are exhibiting for the first time, including, among others, CLC Gallery Venture (Beijing) with Xin Wang, Damien & The Love Guru (Brussels/Zurich) with Jasmin Werner, foro. space (Bogota) with Andrés Matías Pinilla, François Ghebaly (Los Angeles/New York) with Sharif Farrag, Franz Kaka (Toronto) with Mike Goldby, Harlesden High Street (London) with Andre Morgan, Hot Wheels (Athens) with Maria Toumazou, rhizome (Algiers) with Lounis Baouche, and The Naked Room (Kyiv) with Katya Buchatska, Lucy Ivanova and Kateryna Lysovenko.

The artists presented are outstanding representatives of the latest developments in contemporary art. For example, Mariel Capanna (Adams and Ollman, Portland) and Masaya Chiba (Bel Ami, Los Angeles) both explore the subtle relationships between memory, place and perception through performative, reflexive painting, while at the same time exploring the limits of representation and translation. In Vijay Masharani’s (Clima, Milan) experimental video work, a fractured subject finds itself on a hallucinatory threshold. The presentation “Mine Your Own Business” by Gabrielle Torres-Ferrer (Embajada, San Juan), among others, responds to concrete social and political developments by critically examining the current digital environment. Empty Gallery from Hong Kong shows paintings created by Xper.Xr in the wake of the 2019 protests, COVID-19 restrictions and political turmoil. Also concisely responding to social and political present, Andre Morgan (Harlesden High Street, London) celebrates the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act with an immersive installation.

Special guests
New special guests this year include I Never Read, with a bookshop project, artists Jeronim Horvat, Maya Hottarek and Lukas Stäuble with their bar Lucky Barn, and the Pejman Foundation with an installation by Neda Saeedi and Jason Mohaghegh & Asad Khan. Long-standing special guests Helvetia and HEK will be showing works by Anita Mucolli and Eva Papamargariti respectively. More.

Film programme “The Sky Is Getting Closer”
In light of the war in Ukraine, curator Martha Kirszenbaum, together with Oleksandra Pogrebnyak and Daria Shevtsova (PinchukArtCentre, Kyiv), has conceived a film programme featuring 15 works by Ukrainian artists specifically for Liste. Titled after a verse by the Ukrainian poet Dmytro Lazutkin, the programme attempts to give a voice to a generation of artists who are tragically affected by the current situation in their home country. More.

Understructures at LC Queisser
The Georgian gallery LC Queisser is integrating the Ukrainian collective Understructures in its presentation of Sitara Abuzar Ghaznawi and Elene Chantladze at Liste. On this occasion, the collective has created the publication Oberih, a Ukrainian word which translates to “amulet” or “talisman”—an object endowed with special powers to protect against illness and misfortune or to bring good luck, health and special protection to its owner. The book is a collection of personal oberihs and stories of Ukrainians, sharing intimate connections between people, memories and events, conveyed through a symbolic object. The publication will be presented and available to purchase at LC Queisser Gallery’s stand. All of the proceeds will help support the people in Ukraine.

Liste Showtime online, June 13–26, 2022
Liste Expedition online, permanent

In order to guarantee the galleries and their artists the best possible presence alongside the physical fair in Basel, Liste has developed two digital formats: Liste Showtime, the digital edition of the fair, which will take place for the third time from June 13–26, with a preview from June 8–12, and Liste Expedition, a continuously updated digital research forum and artists’ index.
