Hyundai Motorstudio Beijing is proud to announce the opening of Balcony of the Brave: Nutrition, Materials, and Future Ecology curated by Diane Xing, one of the Hyundai Blue Prize Art+Tech 2022 Awardees.

Faced with a chaotic present and an uncertain future, curator Diane Xing believes that we need technologies that are rooted in our everyday lives, and that we should reorient the current relationship between humans and things in this more pragmatic direction.

Based on the Hyundai Blue Prize Art+Tech 2022 theme “Disruptive Futures”, the curators were invited to rethink the role of disruptive technologies, thereby envisioning possibilities for the future. The exhibition Balcony of the Brave: Nutrition, Materials, and Future Ecology engages with the theme by looking into present reality rather than hastily fantasizing about an unknown future. Diane Xing presents cross-sections of the lives of those who showed bravery when facing and overcoming challenges, and the balcony offers a technological and ecological platform through which visitors can readily participate in discussions about the future of life and the relationship between mankind and nature. The exhibition consists of four sections - nutrition converters, material makers, garden planters, and stargazers – all presented from a distinctive perspective.

The exhibition will run until August 28, 2022. During the exhibition, visitors are encouraged to interact with the artworks and participate in public programmes, as part of our collective journey into the future.

About the curator
Diane Xing has undertaken research and planning for BMAB Beijing Media Art Biennale, the Beijing Daxing International Airport Public Art Project, Illusion 2099 Immersive Technology Art Exhibition, Hyper Connection: The 751 International Design Festival (2021), and Future Coupling Art + Tech Exhibition. She has also planned and implemented numerous media art exhibitions and performances.

Xing has engaged in art+tech research and curation, focusing on mixed media narratives as well as biological and ecological topics. She wants to use everyday narratives to explore the diversity of technology and to create future possibilities for cross-border human survival and the co-prosperity of all things.
