“Many are the things that man seeing must understand. Not seeing, how shall he know what lies in the hand of time to come?”—Sophocles

With this announcement, Galeria Nara Roesler attempts to do three things: happily announce must-see shows of our artists happening in São Paulo; eagerly invite all art agenda readers living or visiting São Paulo to stop by the gallery’s booth G01 at SP-Arte Art Fair;  delightedly announce the opening of two exhibitions at the gallery: Paper mirrors by Vik Muniz and Roesler Hotel 22: ATACAMA 1234567.

Must-see shows

Kicking off is Carlito Carvalhosas’ installation Waiting Room (2013), selected to inaugurate MAC-USP’s new space. Consisting of 70 wooden posts, roughly 9 x 12 meters and bulldozed into the empty exhibition space, the installation squats, invading the pristineness of the museum, while creating an autonomous horizontal landscape—a forest lying downtown.

Sérgio Sister at Pinacoteca do Estado. With works dating from 1990 to 2012, the exhibition presents the playful solutions employed by Sister in the exploration between the interplay of surface and three-dimensionality. Here, small-scale works from his series “boxes” are displayed side by side with large scale “pontaletes,” paintings, and works on paper.

Seeing is a fable by Cao Guimarães at Itaú Cultural. Curated by Moacir dos Anjos, this major show includes large and continuous projections of video-works, slides of the much-loved photograph series “Gambiarras,” in addition to a program of feature film screenings, workshops with the artist, and a concert by the artist duo o grivo.

SP-Arte fever
Galeria Nara Roesler participates in the 9th edition of SP-Arte. The fair previews on the 3rd of April to
collectors and opens to the public on the 4th. Stop by and have a chat with us at booth G01 and later, on Saturday, April 6, join us for brunch at the gallery to commemorate the fair.

Opening April 2 at 6pm is Paper mirrors by Vik Muniz and Roesler Hotel 22: ATACAMA 1234567. Presenting for the first time in Brazil Pictures of Magazine 2, this will be Vik’s first solo show at the gallery. In total, eleven never before seen works from the series will be shown, which recreate famous paintings by Caillebotte, Whistler, de Kooning, Monet, and others.

Roesler Hotel 22: ATACAMA 1234567 is part of the gallery’s parallel program of curatorial projects, Roesler Hotel, and marks the first solo show of Hamish Fulton in South America. Curated by Alexia Tala, Director of Plataforma Atacama, the show will include both historical works from the artist as well as his more recent production resulting from his experiences in the Atacama Desert, northern region of Chile.

On the occasion of Mr. Fulton’s stay in São Paulo, the gallery also invites you to:
1 April, 5:30pm – A talk with Hamish Fulton and Alexia Tala at Sala Cultura Inglesa (Duke of York Auditorium) at British Council São Paulo

4 April, 1:30pm – Slowalk: Hamish Fulton invites the public to join him for an immersive walk through Ibirapuera Park.
