This month, we are launching art-agenda’s new website and visual identity. Conceived as a permanently accessible platform for exhibitions and writing about exhibitions, our new website extends art-agenda’s commitment to the production, distribution, and circulation of contemporary art and criticism.

While there has been an exponential proliferation and geographical dispersal in artistic and curatorial practices in the past decade or two, we also have seen the opposite in art criticism: many art publications have lost their independence, many more have closed entirely or have not been able to transition from print to web, while others have embraced a news-chasing model that prizes figures and trending topics over in-depth analysis and reflection. Our goal at art-agenda is to uphold the rigor of the editorial tradition of print criticism while continuing to develop new models, embracing the accessibility, diversity, and speed of online publishing.

Exhibitions are at the core of art-agenda’s activity: our announcements service brings together major galleries and smaller experimental spaces, and our editorial arm covers major international shows with the same attention it pays to smaller, local initiatives.

We are committed to fully representing the diversity and complexity of contemporary art production. Art-agenda’s editorial team and expanded network of contributors include some of the most thoughtful and critically engaged academics, artists, curators, and art critics active in the contemporary cultural field today.

It is thanks to the texts of authors like Erika Balsom, Andrew Berardini, Nick Currie, Ben Davis, Alan Gilbert, Natasha Ginwala, Adam Kleiman, Kim Levin, Maria Lind, Arto Lindsay, Laura McLean Ferris, Sohrab Mohebbi, Pedro Neves Marques, Ingo Niermann, Chris Sharp, Monica Uszerowicz, iLiana Fokianakis and Yannis Varufakis, Kim West, and Marcus Yee, and to art-agenda’s editorial team Orit Gat, Patrick Langley, and editor-in-chief Filipa Ramos, that art-agenda owes its strength.

Working in tandem with our editorial arm, art-agenda Announcements provide information and news that concern exhibitions, art fairs, and contemporary art and culture journals and magazines. Art-agenda’s Announcements and Editorial features reach a unique network of over 50,000 advisors, artists, critics, collectors, curators, and gallerists worldwide.

We see exhibitions not as the conclusion of an editorial stream, but as a way to initiate dialogue and build up relationships by way of meaningful and incisive art criticism, at a time when it is much needed.
